If you’re a serious carp angler, you’ll without a doubt be doing nights. A bedchair is an important part of your arsenal and if you’re as keen as I am, it’ll probably get used more than your bed at home.
The best carp fishing bedchair should be supportive and warm enough to get a good night’s rest, at least until you’re awoken from a bite. Night fishing can take its toll on your body after a while, but having a decent bedchair will definitely make your sessions easier.
Alongside comfort, there are several other things to consider when buying a new bedchair. Weight, pack-down size, length, and seasonal qualities are just as important.
In this article, we’ll be looking at these bedchair sleep systems:
- Avid Benchmark Leveltech Sleep System
- Nash MF60 Indulgence Sleep System
- Nash Sleep System
- Fox R2 Sleep System
- Trakker Levelite Sleep System
- Solar Tackle SP C-Tech Sleep System
- Nash Scope Ops 4 Sleep System
- Fox Duralite Bedchair
- Sonik SK-Tek Sleep System
- Nash Dwarf 4-Fold Sleep System
I’ll also be answering some frequently asked questions from people looking to buy a new bedchair/sleep system.
1. Avid Benchmark Leveltech Sleep System

The Avid Benchmark Leveltech Sleep System is one of the best bedchairs for comfort. If you’re looking for an excellent balance between support, comfort, and weight, this is the one to have.
The Benchmark Leveltech features Avid’s Benchmark memory foam mattress and full-length adjustable lumbar support tension straps. Anglers with back issues praise this bedchair highly and many claim that this is the only reason they’re still able to go fishing.
It’s not just the fantastic lumbar support and the body-hugging memory foam that anglers with back pain rave about…
The Leveltech System features spirit levels on the hinges, this allows you to get the bedchair completely level no matter what the state of the bank is like. This may sound “gimmicky” but sleeping on a level surface is extremely important for lumbar support so you don’t overcompensate by twisting slightly to the right or left as you sleep.
This bedchair features an 8-leg design for ultimate stability on uneven ground and the 50mm foam mattress alongside the double-layer duvet with baffles provides year-round comfort no matter the conditions. All of this comes in at a modest 15kg — not the lightest bedchair on the list but not the heaviest either.
If your main concern is comfort and support but you also want a bedchair that’s not going to hinder your mobility, this Avid piece is a good choice.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 85cm x 210cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 35cm x 85cm x 100cm
- Weight: 15kg
- Bedchair Type: Full Sleep System
- Season Rating: 4-Season
- Best For: Unrivalled Comfort & Back Support
- Stand Out Feature: The Levelteck System
2. Nash MF60 Indulgence Sleep System

Again, if you’re looking for comfort, the Nash MF60 Indulgence Sleep System is a fantastic bedchair to look at. Nash has been making high-quality bedchairs for decades and they’re definitely leading the market.
The MF60 is the standard size Indulgence system but options are also available in compact and super-wide. They all feature the same great comfort and all-season protection, it’s just the size that differs.
The MF60 Indulgence features a fleece-covered memory foam mattress with an all-season zip-in hollow fibre duvet. Large baffles prevent cool air from entering the zip line and help improve the bedchair’s insulative qualities.
This bedchair offers the best balance between comfort, support, and protection from the cold. That does come at a price though — both in cost and in weight.
The Indulgence bedchairs aren’t lightweight or particularly compact when folded.
Coming in at a whopping 22.5kg and measuring 75x70x42cm folded (the standard), this definitely isn’t the best option for those of you that like to stay on the move while you’re fishing. However, if you’re looking for ultimate comfort and luxury on holiday-style sessions, or waters that have easily accessible pegs, this is a fantastic bedchair.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 200cm x 77cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 75cm x 70cm x 42cm
- Weight: 22.5kg
- Bedchair Type: Full Sleep System
- Season Rating: 4-Season
- Best For: Extreme Comfort on Long Sessions
- Stand Out Feature: Adjustable Lumbar Support & Memory Foam
3. Nash Sleep System

The Nash Sleep System is a basic bedchair sleep system for those of you on a budget. Coming from Nash Tackle, it’s made to the highest of standards and is extremely reliable.
Of course, this basic sleep system is nowhere near as comfortable as the bedchairs in their Indulgence range but it definitely does the job.
This is the sleep system I’m currently using and I’ve had no problems with it so far. Okay, it’s not the most comfortable bedchair but I’ve done over 100 nights on it without too many aches and pains. The one thing to take into consideration is that the zip-in duvet and bottom mattress are rather thin. This is great for summer but I have needed an extra bag inside for spring and autumn.
If you’re on a budget, I don’t think you’ll get a much better sleep system. It’s well-priced, fairly light, comfortable enough, and it has endured the rugged life-style of a carper that’s fishing wild lakes most of the year in the forests of Sweden.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 198cm x 80cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 80cm x 80cm x 32cm
- Weight: 10.8kg
- Bedchair Type: Full Sleep System
- Season Rating: 3-Season
- Best For: Budget & Weight
- Stand Out Feature: Light Weight & Durability
4. Fox R2 Sleep System

The R2 Sleep System features a completely lay-flat frame. It’s also designed to be as rectangular as possible to offer the closest experience to a traditional mattress as possible. The frame has double hinges that allow the elastic to run through it equally to provide even tension — making for uniform firmness across the entirety of the bedchair.
This is a great bedchair for those of you that have had issues with previous systems that have been too forgiving in terms of firmness. The flat, firm, and supportive mattress is extremely comfortable and the fully-adjustable lumbar support system allows you to fine-tune the bedchair to your specific needs.
These features combined ensure that the mattress has even support and flatness throughout the entire mattress so you can sleep comfortably in any position, as you would in your bed at home.
The Fox Flatliners come in 6 and 8-leg options so you can select between stability or portability. Both options are still pretty light coming in at 16kg (8-leg option) and 14.75kg (6-leg option).
This is another great bedchair that’s offered as a basic bedchair (without duvet) or a full sleep system. If you’re looking for a bedchair that’s going to give you more of a flat, bed-like experience that’s still relatively portable, check the Flatliner bedchairs out.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 212cm x 98cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 90cm x 90cm x 36cm
- Weight: 16.1kg
- Bedchair Type: Full Sleep System
- Season Rating: 4-Season
- Best For: Best Comfort for the Money
- Stand Out Feature: Lay-Flat Design & Adjustable Lumbar Support
5. Trakker Levelite Sleep System

The Trakker Levelite is an oval-shaped sleep system that also has a lay-flat design. This bedchair retains great support and comfort while slimming down weight and size. Trakker has done this by removing the unnecessary space at the head and foot end of the bedchair.
The oval shape of this sleep system allows you to push the bedchair right to the back of your shelter to free up more room for tackle and other essentials. This design also makes it much more compact when folded and cuts the weight down dramatically, coming in at a mere 11.7kg.
The Levelite has everything you’d expect from a high-end bedchair, and coming from Trakker, you’re guaranteed quality.
It has fully adjustable lumbar support so you can customise the mattress’s firmness to your liking. The high-density foam retains its springiness and contours to the shape of your body. A zip-in box-section sleeping bag is also available in several different season ratings to ensure you stay comfortable year-round.
This bedchair is a great option for those of you that like to cut down on weight and pack-down size. It’s also perfect for brolly users that want to get as much space out of their shelter as possible.
The only downside is, of course, the limited wiggle room at the head and foot of the bed. If this is something you can live with, you’ll get on well with the Trakker Levelite system.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 213cm x 93cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 71cm x 93cm
- Weight: 11.7kg (Without Sleeping Bag) 15.2kg (With Sleeping Bag)
- Bedchair Type: Bedchair with Zip-in Sleeping Bag
- Season Rating: 3-Season (Adjustable Dependant on Sleeping Bag)
- Best For: Balance Between Comfort & Portability
- Stand Out Feature: Unique Oval Design
6. Solar Tackle SP C-Tech Sleep System

The Solar SP C-Tech Sleep System is a bedchair for the angler that wants all-season comfort in an easy-to-use no bullsh*t package.
This Solar bedchair is extremely durable and rugged. It doesn’t have any cords for adjustable lumbar support and it has a simple classic 6-leg design which means there’s less to go wrong. That’s not to say this bedchair isn’t comfortable and luxurious though.
The SP C-Tech system features a fully insulated breathable mattress. This ensures that heat is retained inside the sleep system while staying completely dry without moisture collection. This makes it a fantastic bedchair for year-round use because in the height of summer it’ll help you stay cool and in the depths of winter, it’ll keep you warm without collecting moisture.
The sleeping bag included with this system is multi-layered.
Part of the system lays over the mesh mattress to keep it clean and separate from your body. The duvet layer is fleece lined and has large baffles to retain heat. The final layer is a removable waterproof shroud that can be combined with the other layers during the colder months for extra protection or used on its own for a light duvet during summer.
Overall, this is a versatile sleep system that’s rugged, easy-to-use, and extremely comfortable in all four seasons. It’s not particularly light, but coming in at 17kg, it does come in lighter than some other sleep systems with the same range of features.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 80cm x 205cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 88cm x 86cm x 32cm
- Weight: 17kg
- Bedchair Type: Bechair with Removable Sleeping Bag System
- Season Rating: 4-Season
- Best For: Comfort & Unrivalled Insulative Qualities
- Stand Out Feature: The Innovative Mesh Mattress
7. Nash Scope Ops 4 Sleep System

The Nash Scope Ops 4 Sleep System has been designed for the angler that wants to stay mobile. It has a four-fold design and comes with a heavy-duty carry strap to make carrying the system down the trails to forgotten swims easier.
The Nash Scope Ops 4 Sleep System’s compact transport size and light weight (12.4kg all-in) definitely steal the show. However, there’s a lot more to this sleep system than portability.
This sleep system features a high-density mattress, a 6-leg frame, and a hollow-fibre luxury duvet with baffles. It’s safe to say that not only is the Scope bedchair portable, it’s extremely comfortable and suitable for all seasons.
This is a durable bedchair for the angler that wants to stay mobile. It’s also a fantastic option for the angler that wants comfort. You’re not going to get the same luxurious levels of comfort as the Indulgence range, but coming in at almost 10kg less, this it’s a no-brainer in my eyes.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 195cm x 77cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 60cm x 78cm x 40cm
- Weight: 12.4kg
- Bedchair Type: Full Sleep System
- Season Rating: 4-Season
- Best For: Staying on the Move
- Stand Out Feature: Minimal Weight & Transport Size
8. Fox Duralite Bedchair

Another great bedchair from Fox, the Duralite is Fox’s answer for the angler that wants to stay light and on the move. This is the lightest bedchair on our list coming in at only 8.6kg.
The light weight of this bedchair is thanks to the alloy magnesium frame construction. The six-leg frame that features two double legs in the middle section and one at each end of the bed helps cut down on weight while keeping the bedchair level and stable.
The Duralite bedchair is similar to the Fox Flatliner in terms of design and you’ll get a similar flat-bed feeling when sleeping on it. The 3D mesh mattress has been designed to cut the weight of the bedchair down. It also helps promote airflow to reduce moisture levels inside the sleeping bag, similar to the Solar bedchair mentioned earlier.
This isn’t a full sleep system however fitted sleeping bags from Fox are available in both three and five-season options. You’ll find these for sale separately but you’ll also occasionally find the bedchair and a sleeping bag as part of a discounted bundle.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 78cm x 102cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 76cm x 78cm x 24cm
- Weight: 8.6kg (Without Sleeping Bag)
- Bedchair Type: Bedchair with Fitted Sleeping Bag
- Season Rating: 4-Season
- Best For: Comfort & Mobility
- Stand Out Feature: Lightweight Design
9. Sonik SK-Tek Sleep System

The Sonik SK-Tek Sleep Systems are built for portability. They are extremely lightweight — with the 4-season sleep system coming in at 12.5kg and the 5-season system weighing 13.6kg.
Not only are these sleep systems lightweight, but they are also extremely comfortable. The rectangular frame and spread out leg supports provide a lay-flat bedchair that’s incredibly stable. The wide nature with the squared foot and head provide the angler with plenty of wiggle room, to provide supportive comfort in any position.
To increase the insulative qualities of the sleep system Sonik has developed their Xpanda attachment system. This system allows the sleeping bag insulation to form to the shape of your body, meaning faster warm up times and long-lasting insulation throughout the night.
Overall, the SK-Tek is a lightweight sleep system that’s comfortable, durable, and affordable.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 212cm x 84cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 84cm x 87cm x 30cm
- Weight: 12.5kg (4-Season) 13.6kg (5-Season)
- Bedchair Type: Full Sleep System
- Season Rating: 4 & 5-Season Options
- Best For: Budget Comfort & Portability
- Stand Out Feature: Affordability
10. Nash Dwarf 4-Fold Sleep System

The Dwarf range is Nash’s answer for the angler that can’t quite afford the items in their more pricey Scope range. There are several products in this collection including rods, nets, and of course this bedchair.
If you liked the look of the Scope Ops 4 bedchair but can’t quite stomach splashing out that much cash on a sleep system, this is the one to look at.
The Dwarf sleep system features a thinner mattress and duvet than the Scope Ops bedchair but the quality is still superb. It’s actually slightly lighter than the Scope too, coming in at 11.8kg.
The bed comes complete with a fleece-lined mattress and a four-season duvet. It has adjustable elastic to control the firmness of the bed to your liking and a fleece-lined mattress cover that can be machine washed. This allows you to keep your footwear on without worrying about cleaning issues.
The Dwarf definitely doesn’t have the same great build-quality as the Scope Ops bedchair but at nearly half the price, you can’t complain. This is a durable all-in-one sleep system for the angler on a budget that wants to save space and weight on their barrow or boat.
Bedchair Specs:
- Mattress Size (Unfolded): 200cm x 78cm
- Transportation Size (Folded): 60cm x 78cm x 40cm
- Weight: 11.8kg
- Bedchair Type: Full Sleep System
- Season Rating: 4-Season
- Best For: Portability
- Stand Out Feature: The 4-Fold System
Frequently Asked Questions When Buying a New Carp Fishing Bedchair
If you’re on the market for a new bedchair you may be looking for answers to a few different questions. There are a few things you should consider when purchasing a new bedchair/sleep system for your carp fishing. In this section, we’ll be outlining those…
A) What’s the Difference Between a Bedchair & a Sleep System?

You may have heard the terms bedchair and sleep system. So are these different in any way?
The answer is yes and no. The basis of a sleep system is in fact a bedchair.
The term bedchair is given to the mattress and frame that we use to lay on.
The term sleep system refers to a bedchair that has an integrated duvet/ sleeping bag that keeps you warm and protected through the night.
A full sleep system provides you with an all-in-one system that you can start doing nights in instantly. A bedchair alone is not a full system and will need a sleeping bag or fitted duvet to create a suitable sleep system.
B) Can You Use a Bedchair Year-Round?

Yes. You can use a bedchair year-round providing that it’s part of a four-season sleep system or you have a four-season sleeping bag for the bed.
There are several bedchairs (many on this list) that are suitable for all four seasons. They feature thick zipped-in duvets, multi-layer systems, and shrouds. These features allow you to use thinner layers during the warmer months and combine layers for the cooler months.
C) Should A Sleep System be Portable?

In my opinion, a sleep system should be lightweight and easily portable. However, whether this is important to you will depend on your angling needs.
If you’re the holiday-style angler that likes to set up and stay in one swim, you may favour comfort over portability. If this is the case you may opt for a heavier more cumbersome bedchair such as the Nash Indulgence because you don’t need to move it around much. You may as well have the pinnacle of luxury if you’re staying in one place!
If you’re more of a mobile angler that likes to stay light and move onto showing fish, a lightweight and easily transportable bedchair will suit you better. Sleep systems such as the Nash Scope Ops 4 or the cheaper Nash Dwarf 4 systems are great options for the roving carp angler.
D) Are Carp Fishing Bedchairs Expensive?

Carp fishing sleep systems and bedchairs can be expensive especially if you want something that’s durable, comfortable, and versatile. However, there are plenty of cheaper options available if you’re on a budget.
Decent carp fishing sleep systems sit in the range of around £200 to upwards of £500. Bedchairs such as the Fox R2 can be picked up for under £200 but they require additional sleeping bags.
If you’re in the market for a good budget sleep system we recommend the standard Nash Sleep System, the Sonik SK-Tek System, or the Nash Dwarf System.
A Final Word: Choosing the Best Bedchair for You

Choosing a carp fishing bedchair doesn’t have to be difficult. Hopefully, if you’ve got this far, you’ll have a rough idea of what to look for in a bedchair/sleep system and have one in mind that suits you and your angling style.
Remember to assess what your needs are before purchasing any piece of carp fishing equipment. There’s no point in opting for a large, heavy, cumbersome bedchair if you like to stay on the move. Similarly, there’s no point in opting for something lightweight that lacks comfort if you plan on using the bedchair in one swim for longer sessions.
You should definitely consider support when it comes to a bedchair, regardless of whether you’re old, young, fit, or unfit. It’s important to look after your back and we as anglers put our bodies through their paces when in search of specimen carp.
If you’re unfortunate enough to suffer from back pain already, you may need a bedchair with a bit more lumbar support. If this is the case, be sure to check out our best bedchairs for back pain article here.
